If the gesso mix is prepared correctly: that is putting the ingredients into their proper order, using the correct materials to make the gesso, this mx will fulfill its chemical obligation and produce a very fine workable gesso that can provide the user with a variety of different options in the application stages..
The problem is that if you attempt to make a ceremony out of the preparation portion by mixing everything together, then as the gesso dries, everything will separate... The end result is overcompensating the gesso by adding more glue, more sugar, or both.. Not only is this historically inaccurate, but chemically unsound. The preparation stage gets continuously altered and no formula works that way !
